Tree Surveys for Building Control
Trees can cause structural damage when growing near to buildings on clay soil and therefore structural engineers and building control departments usually require specific and accurate arboricultural information to help determine appropriate foundation depths.
Heaps Arboriculture provides clear, scaled tree information plans to support the building control process and assist with regulatory approval. Our clear, scaled plans typically include:
- Tree species identification
- Current and mature heights
- Water demand classifications
- Distances from trees to the proposed development
- Clear site plans and supporting arboricultural information
All plans are prepared in accordance with current NHBC guidance, including Chapter 4.2: Building Near Trees (see link below). These tree plans can be used to support building control applications submitted to local authorities or approved building control inspectors.

For structural engineers, we also provide a remote, cost-effective tree identification service (desk top appraisal of your tree photos). This saves time and uncertainty when designing foundations.
